2007 Meeting Letter

John E. Sutphin, MD
Executive Secretary

May 15, 2007

Dear Colleague:

The 41st annual meeting of the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group will be held Friday, November 9, 2007 at the Wyndham New Orleans at Canal Place in New Orleans, Louisiana. The OMIG meeting will run from 7:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Registration will start at 6:45 a.m. Our meeting will be held in the Terrace. The Federated Scientific Session (Cornea Society and EBAA) will also take place on November 10th at the Wyndham Canal Place.

Included in this letter is a registration card for the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group meeting, which includes the $50 annual membership fee. For those who register at the meeting, the fee will be $65. If you wish to attend the OMIG lunch/business meeting from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. you must include a check for $35 with your dues. This will help us to determine how many people will actually attend the lunch. The lunch will be held in the River room. If you have a new e-mail address, please include it with your registration card.

In order to reduce mailing charges for OMIG, we ask that you return the registration card even if you do not plan to attend the meeting. This will update your membership address and confirm that you remain a member of OMIG. If you do not wish to receive further mailings, please check the appropriate line on the card. Badges will be mailed to those of you who indicate that you will be attending the meeting. If your address is listed incorrectly or if you will be moving, please let us know on your response card, or call the Executive Assistant, Joan Pribnow, at 509-624-4297. You may also FAX information to Joan at 509-624-6082, or e-mail the information to joanpribnow@comcast.net . Please submit any address changes before Septhember 1, 2007 in order to allow time to update our membership list in the abstract book for the meeting.

Sally Atherton, PhD, will present this year's Thygeson Lecture. She will speak on "Herpes Simplex Virus Infections: From the Outside In?"

Abstracts must be submitted on the enclosed form to both joanpribnow@comcast.net and omig@kumc.edu and must be received by September 10, 2007 in order to be considered for the meeting. Faxed abstracts will not be accepted this year. Only abstracts in an electronic format that can be modified easily will be accepted (for example, Word doc or txt, Adobe pdf). The first author or sponsor must be a member in good standing. A member can sponsor or present only one paper. All papers will be 5 minutes in length with 3 minutes for discussion. Acceptance or rejection notices will be e-mailed in late-September to the e-mail address that accompany your abstracts.

The Board of OMIG has instituted a commercial relationships policy for authors and presenters. This policy is derived directly from ARVO's policy for abstract submission to its annual meeting. The policy is enclosed and you are asked to provide a disclosure code at the bottom of the abstract box. The disclosure code is necessary for your abstract to be considered. The OMIG Board also requests that authors and presenters try to stress new data and statistical analysis in their submissions whenever possible.

OMIG has a website thanks to the Charles T. Campbell Laboratory. It can be located by searching http://eyemicrobiology.upmc.com/. You can then select the OMIG icon. The agenda and abstracts for recent meetings are available on the website. All correspondence concerning the 2007 annual meeting will shortly be available on the website. The agenda and abstracts for the papers to be presented at the 2007 meeting will be on the website within four weeks of the meeting date.

If you wish to register for or submit an abstract to the Federated Scientific Session meeting (Cornea Society and EBAA), please check their web site at www.corneasociety.org and www.restoresight.org. Scientific papers may be submitted for presentation at either the OMIG or Federated Cornea Society meetings to be held November 9th. However, the same paper may only be presented at one of the meetings. Please note that the AAO is sponsoring a pre-meeting Cornea Day on Saturday November 10, 2007 for the first time this year.

Sincerely,

John E. Sutphin, Jr., M.D
Professor of Ophthalmology
Executive Secretary, OMIG
